Natural latex: What is it?
As a consumer, it can be quite overwhelming to navigate through the various options when purchasing a new mattress. What is the perfect core for me? Will it help with my discomfort? Why choose this particular core?
At Tuur®, we use 100% natural latex in our cores. Not only is this a sustainable material, but it is also naturally antibacterial, hypoallergenic, and breathable—qualities that are important to many people.
How sustainable is the production process?
Natural latex is a highly breathable and flexible material, perfect for enhancing your sleep comfort. At Tuur®, we use 100% natural latex. The source of our rubber sap is in Southeast Asia, and our core manufacturer only purchases the rubber sap from reliable channels, maintaining a blacklist of regions that are avoided due to child labor, corruption, and other issues.
Our manufacturer has over 50 years of experience and has perfected the Dunlop process, which we now refer to as the Latexco process. This is an open-cell production process that requires 10 times less energy than the Talalay process. Additionally, our production method uses only 2% of the water that the Talalay process consumes. Did you know that our latex producer is just 16 kilometers away from us? At Tuur®, we work in a short supply chain!
100% Natural latex, is it possible?
We are proud to say that the cores of Tuur® mattresses, toppers, and pillows are made from 100% natural latex. Many brands advertise ‘natural latex mattresses,’ but beware: many of these mattresses still contain a large proportion of synthetic latex.
According to European law, a mattress can be labeled as a ‘natural latex mattress’ with just 40% (!) natural latex content. In practice, you’ll often find that many ‘natural latex mattresses’ have an 85/15 ratio (85% natural latex, 15% synthetic latex), following Swiss regulations for using the term natural latex.
After years of research into natural latex and its production methods, Tuur® has discovered that a core made from 100% natural latex is indeed possible. Many brands in the market claim that a certain amount of synthetic latex is necessary, but this is not true. Tuur® is living proof of this. It is simply cheaper for manufacturers to supplement natural latex with synthetic latex.
At Tuur®, we choose not to compromise on quality. Our mattresses may be more expensive than some other ‘natural latex’ mattresses, but in return, you get the assurance that we only work with the highest-quality materials.
